The University of Bergen (UiB) is an internationally recognized research university. Academic diversity and high quality are fundamental for us. UiB is the most cited university in Norway. There are seven faculties at UiB and there are close to 20 000 students at the university. We employ more than 4 200 faculty and staff. PhD candidates are paid employees, making the doctoral degree at UiB particularly attractive for rising talent. About half of graduating doctors are from outside Norway.

We recommend students to plan for approximately this number of credits per semester, unless you have agreed on another number with your home university. You do not have to ask UIB for permission if you wish take more than 30 ECTS.

An estimate of an average student budget in Norway is about NOK 12 717 per month (2022). Students staying in Norway for two semesters (2023/24) should have finacial support equivalent to NOK 137 907. Students staying for the autumn semester 2023 only: NOK 62 685. Students staying for the spring semester 2024 only: NOK 75 222.
